Woman Dominate Vlam Panelbeaters Blood Buddy Memel to Newcastle
The Annual Vlam Panelbeaters Blood Buddy Memel to Newcastle Event was a huge success. More than 1400 athletes took to the Memel Road to either run or walk Province to Province Event.
The organisers of the event, Champ Marketing & Events are very proud of the event and congratulate the athlete in taking part in the Event.
The event started 30 minutes later than planned in Memel due to Safety Reasons. The mist was very dangerous, and the organisers in conjunction with the event Safety Officer decided to rather start the event at 6:30 am and not 6 am
Woman dominated the event on Woman's Day. Ladies from all over South Africa flocked to Memel to take part in the event. A very special lady was Runner No 061, Thembi Ngweyna (63) who completed the event in 7 hours 56 minutes and came first in the Grand Master (Age 60 + ) category. She became a hero when a photo of Thembi went viral on Facebook.
The cold winters morning turned into a very hot summers day, and the organisers needed to buy in more water for the event at a local store. The more than 7000 water sachets were just not enuff for the athletes, while Coca – Cola ‘s 1600 litres of Coke was a rescue for many. A big thank you must go out to the Ncandu 86 Round Table for ensuring that all Water Tables had water, coke and flags on the road.
The first person to cross the finish line was runner number 088, Basil Mazibuko in a time of 3 hours and 36 minutes. The first lady was Jo Claassen in a time of 5 hours and 13 minutes.
Our first Walker back in Newcastle was Greatermin Twala in a time of 6 Hours 15 Minutes.
The new finished point seems to be a huge success, and the organisers decided to keep the finish point at Treetops for the years to come. The atmosphere at the finish was electrifying, and every body had a great time.
A salute goes out to the 22 Watertables and Traffic Officials for the great job they have done on the road. The event was a safe and awesome team building event.
We can look forward to 9th August 2018!
